Shot #143: Ever seen a Yawning Billboard? Here’s why Cafe Pele did it | Marketing Shots
Plus, 3 Noteworthy Updates for Marketers
Hello, awesome marketers and founders.
This is Luv, and here’s your Marketing Shot :)
Imagine walking through a busy subway station. You look up at a digital billboard and see a guy yawning, like a lot.
As people pass by, his yawns start ramping up, thanks to motion sensors tracking the foot traffic.
Before you know it, everyone’s catching the yawns and you can almost feel that urge for a caffeine boost.
At the peak of this yawn fest, the billboard flashes a message: “Did you yawn too? Time for coffee.”
Just then, Cafe Pele’s staff shows up with free cups of espresso.
This campaign tapped into something we all do- yawning when we see someone else yawn.
Studies show about 70% of people do it and Café Pelé smartly linked that reflex to a craving for coffee, using psychology to steer people toward their product.
Watch the campaign in action.
