Back in 2013, a kid named Dieunerst Collin unexpectedly became an internet sensation when a video of him standing awkwardly in line at Popeyes went viral.
His puzzled expression earned him the nickname "Popeyes Kid," and he quickly became one of the internet's favourite memes, capturing that feeling of uncertainty and awkwardness.
Fast forward to 2023, Collin has grown up and traded his meme fame for some serious football success!
After leading his high school team to a New Jersey state championship in 2021, he joined Lake Erie College to play as a Division II football player.
In early January 2023, a tweet celebrating Collin’s journey from meme to state champion gained a lot of attention.
Taking advantage of the moment, Collin tagged Popeyes on social media, playfully saying, "I just wanna talk business."
His followers, along with some big names on social media, rallied behind him, encouraging the brand to team up with him.
Just a few days later, Popeyes answered with a sponsorship offer, welcoming Collin to their family! They celebrated his amazing journey with a fun promotional video and even put his face on a billboard in his hometown, proudly showcasing the tagline: “From Memes to Dreams.” How cool is that?
